Snowcovers' annual contest was on a Saturday but as of Friday, nothing was open. A snow and rain storm had wiped the Young Guns park out. Luckily the Seymour park team worked miracles on Saturday morning and recovered a decent course which included at least a dozen features. I got up there with my brother and saw that they had a jump, so I decided to compete.
Photographer Evan Cs was sick for the event unfortunately, so we don't have any photos (I'm calling it skierfobia). I also missed part of qualifiers, but there was some good shit going down on the boxes and rails when I got back... For one the up-flat rail was getting destroyed - large 270 and 450 gaps off the up. Late in qualifying I broke the hearts of at least a few hungry kids - who had been sessioning the jump with 7s and 9s - by laying out a backflip to the bottom of the landing and taking home the best hit prize. Sorry dudes..
For the finals the jibbers had 2 runs on a line of 3 rails: a flat bar down rail, a street style narrow down rail, and a down-flat-down rail. Andy recovered from a devastating straddle of the dfd rail in qualifiers to take 3rd. A guy they were calling Montreal killed it all day and took the win with a 270 loaded run. For the kids aged 13-18, some dude named Peter won the skis while a dude they were calling Brown Spy was close behind. Both guys had dope runs.
Registration was only $10 and prizes were K2 skis and Orage jackets. Definitely a worthwhile comp.
