Boxing Day Bounty
posted on Feb 28 2008
It had been snowing non stop for a few days by the time it cleared up for a bit late on Boxing Day, providing some Yule time treats. While most people were out shopping till they dropped, some of us managed to somehow resist the huge savings and head up Seymour. I finished work and headed straight up the hill to meet Evan Cs who had called earlier and said he was heading up.

About 20 minutes later I am on Mystery Chair wondering were I should go first looking for Evan. I get off the chair and quickly find my way to some fresh tracks. It's about waist deep and relatively dry for Seymour, but quite unstable considering most of it has fallen in the last two days. 30 seconds in to my run someone calls out my name and the search for Evan ends. He is with Dave Short and Ricky Mars, and they are scoping out some side hit possibilities on a run known for just that.

We all take a look around and decide to test a few things out, starting with a classic side hit above the run. After a few test runs on it we find out that the snow isn't quite right to get the launch we need off the side hit. The snow is rock hard on this side wall so we decide to scrap that plan and move across the run and try to build something there. Below the run we find a nice natural bump take off that will only require a bit of building to launch us on to a hip style landing a bit further down the run. We have all hit quite a few side hits on this run in the past, but I think none of us had actually ever hit this almost natural hit right beside the run. After some building, a snack run and some sluff surfing pow lines we were hitting a fun little jump.

I'll take a night up the mountain like that one over a big credit card bill any Boxing Day. -Eldon Sparks
